My favorite gold bullion coins are 1 oz. Canadian Maple Leafs, South African Krugerrands, and American Eagles. I usually choose based on price, but I probably like the Maple Leaf the best. I prefer a new coin, but anything in good shape is fine by me.
I like these particular coins because they seem very recognizable to me. In a worst case scenario, that might be a factor. In any case, I'm buying for bullion value, so these choices seem unlikely to offer any downside.
Historically Krugerrands have sold for slightly less than comparable coins for political reasons. If that still has any effect, it's a very small one. And it's a beautiful coin.
